This Week In Black History

Feb. 8, 1986

Medical student Debi Thomas becomes the first black skater to win the women’s singles of the U.S. National Figure Skating Championship. She goes on to become an orthopedic surgeon after a residency at the Martin Luther King/Charles Drew University Medical Center in L.A.
